Hey, jlmack, do you have 100 grams of dried chives? November 2, 2011

No, I don’t. That was one of the more interesting questions I heard today at work. I’ve learned to take those kind of questions in stride. Actually, I get worried when I go more than a day without questions like that.

But, a long, weird day at work was a small price to pay to be able to see my parents this evening! Hooray! They brought lovely gifts. I will take a picture tomorrow when I remember to bring my camera home from work.  I’m meeting them again for breakfast tomorrow, and I’ll get to SLEEP IN FOR AN EXTRA HOUR! This is an unheard of treat for a Thursday morning. As much as I’m looking forward to it, I know that I’ll end up getting up at my regular time and scowling at my alarm clock until it’s time to go.

Mama said he’s a nice singer… November 29, 2010

This post was published last night, but it never turned up! Eep!

This will make my sister giggle. My mom mentioned several times over the weekend that she thought LL Cool J was a good actor nice singer. I’d love to play a few tracks from ‘Bigger and Deffer’ and see what she has to say about his nice singing.

Ladies (like my mother) Love Cool James.

Happy day… November 28, 2010

Today, my cousins’ children were christened. All together, three children (and a very active older sister/cousin), four thrilled parents, four ecstatic grandparents, one proud great-grandmother, and some very happy extended family and friends were there for the celebration. We all went to my aunt and uncle’s house afterwards for some fun and delicious food.

It was a great day. It was good to spend time with my sister and her family, and get to see my cousins and their families. And doggies.

I also got to see an old friend from Japan! My friend, M, is in Halifax to take a course. I haven’t seen her since I left Japan. We had coffee this morning and it was wonderful to catch up with her.

I’ve had a great weekend home. Back to Monkeytown tomorrow afternoon…

My fake Irish uncle and his thoughts November 13, 2010

I know I’ve mentioned my fake Irish uncle before. He’s wonderful, and now he has a blog! Check it out! I’ve been shocking at keeping in touch with him; the messaging function at Facebook has been crapping out on me, but that is still no excuse.

I miss him, and I miss the pub. Of course, the nights when the dance floor was about to fall into the sixth floor, with Alan right in the middle of it all – dreadlocks flying – dancing to some Robbie Williams throwback, were always a blast. But what I really miss are the times when it would be just the regulars in the pub. Open Mike with Mike night. A five o’clock beer with Helen. Trivia nights. Ian and Brian and many, many others. And always, Alan.

I’m excited to see what he has to say!

A gift from Mom and Dad November 4, 2010

I’m pretty sure Kat had something to do with this little gift! It’s such a fun colour, and it fits all of the junk I lug around with me. Hooray! It’s much cooler than an Elvis Potato Head!

I’m really happy to be back here blogging. I am happy that DeeDee is happy! So, I have to keep this up. She wouldn’t ‘want to miss a thing’ (hahah, wink, wink…); I’m in for the long haul.

I may ask for a new camera from Santa, so I can some better pictures up in this space. I see lots of things every day that need to be shared with the world. Like souped-up Fieros and empty condom wrappers. My street is awesome!

A recent-ish picture for DeeDee November 3, 2010

I haven’t been home much since moving to Moncton, so I haven’t really seen DeeDee much this year. And I, er, neglected my blogging duties over the past few months. So, here you go, DeeDee! My hair is almost under control!

I’m a little excited right now; my parents are coming for a visit tomorrow. Hooray! I can’t wait to see them. They’re on their way home from Atlanta. We’re going to go out for lunch. I hope to get home next weekend to see my family and friends. I need some serious downtown Halifax time.

Mmm… maybe some waffles from the Farmers’ Market are in order…

My parents are hitting the road tomorrow! They’re driving down to Atlanta to visit my sister and her family. How exciting! This picture was taken last year at my graduation. Don’t we look happy? It was a great day; finally finished eight years of post-secondary education. Whew!

It’s been almost exactly 11 years since I went back to Japan. This picture was taken a few days before I left in March 1999. Aren’t they gorgeous? I think that they’re pretty awesome. I’m lucky to have them.

I have a fake Irish uncle! His name is Alan. I don’t really remember how he became my fake uncle, but I love that he is ‘family’. I don’t think that he will mind that I’m using this picture of him.

Do you have an Irish uncle? I think that you should. They’re wonderful. They’re always there for you when you need a shoulder or a laugh, require very little feeding (an Aero bar and a Diet Coke make the perfect offering), and even when they are an ocean away, you always know that they have nothing but love for you.

My uncle is training for another desert marathon in Morocco. He is full of extremes, and I know he’ll do something insane like swim the English Channel next. I would definitely help him with that venture – I would love to help him become a stronger swimmer. I think I could train him with homemade banana bread.

Do you have something like an Irish uncle? Why is this person as special as an Irish uncle to you?

I had a picture of my lovely niece and nephew yesterday. Here is a picture of Livie and Lauren, and of course – Fergus! I chose this picture because the looks on their faces over something Fergus has, er, dropped, are priceless. Mr. Bear also loves pictures of Fergus, so this had to be the one.

You can see more of Livie and Lauren on my lovely sister, Kat’s, blog – Pretty in Pink and Green.
