I love this album. A friend gave it to me for Christmas when I was 17. I think I’ve had several copies of it on both cassette and CD. I’ve worn it out a few times, given it as gifts, thrilled coworkers with it, and a host of other awesomeness. It’s one of my go-to album when I need a bit of all right. What do you listen to when you need a bit of awesome?
On the road again… November 4, 2011
I wish.
I saw this and it got me thinking. I love road trips! I love getting out of town. I love eating at diners. I love getting pictures with bizarre landmarks.
I haven’t been on a proper road trip for a long time. I think I’m due for one. I want to drive out to the middle of nowhere to eat at a seafood shack. I want to have my picture taken next to a giant ball of twine. I want to buy horrible souvenir t-shirts for my friends and family. Who’s in?
Moar tea September 4, 2011
So, I’m in love with Davids Tea. The new Fall Collection has a pumpkin chai tea that I could drink by the bucketful. It’s delicious!
There are some other awesome things in this photo (aside from my toaster). Molly gave me this mug last week as part of my bridesmaid/birthday gift (I’m still waiting for some pictures from the wedding… my camera froze. Boo). I love it!
The tin of Lemon Cream Pie was a random act of kindness, compliments of the lovely manager of the tea shop. It’s one of my favourite teas, and they had run out. I was hoping they would get some in, and I kept checking with the clerks. The manager is also a fan of the tea, and she told me if it was no longer in stock, she would give me some of her own stash. I went in the other day, and she told me to come in on the weekend. She gave me a full tin for free! I was thrilled. I’m going to have to make her some cookies to thank her… lemon cookies, for sure.
So, I’m running again. I’m doing it through the Running Room, which has been lots of fun. I’m running 4 days a week, roughly about 3k at a time. I think I could probably handle more, but I’m just taking things slowly and building up to running awesomeness. I bought some new running sneakers last month… my first non-Nike pair! Yup, the Adidas Supernovas felt like slippers when I tried them on, so I took them home with me. We’re very happy together.
I’ve also started doing yoga again, which is really helping with the running. If you have any suggestions for poses that help loosen tight hips, please let me know. I’m pretty flexible, but my hips have been pretty tight lately.
Mama said he’s a nice singer… November 29, 2010
This post was published last night, but it never turned up! Eep!
This will make my sister giggle. My mom mentioned several times over the weekend that she thought LL Cool J was a good actor nice singer. I’d love to play a few tracks from ‘Bigger and Deffer’ and see what she has to say about his nice singing.
Ladies (like my mother) Love Cool James.
A little bathroom art… November 27, 2010
When Wayback Gwen came over for Kat’s wedding, she heard about the Halifax Explosion from about eleventy billion different people. When I was out with DeeDee, T, and S last night, this picture was hanging in one of the bathroom stalls. I posted it just for you, Wayback Gwen!
I know why she wears a hat… November 26, 2010
Eep! I’m late on this one… I have a picture! I just need to upload it. It’s of an infamous Halifax icon. And I have the inside scoop on why she always wears a hat…
Here’s the story. I used to work at a chocolate shop in downtown Halifax. There was a lovely toy shop across the hall; Geraldine the Giraffe lived there. She was rolled out every morning to the entrance of the shop, and rolled back in at night. Well, one Saturday morning, the girls at the toy store came to get me. When I got to the shop, I could smell something had been burnt. I looked up, and half of Geraldine’s head had been singed straight through to the stuffing. The girls were HORRIFIED; apparently, they had put her too close the lights the night before, and Geraldine’s head caught on fire. They had no idea what to do.
They wrapped her head in a bandage, and then raised money for the burn unit at the hospital. Since then, Geraldine has moved the Halifax library, and now wears different hats, depending on the time of year.
High societeeee dins November 23, 2010
Yeah. I’m having popcorn for dinner. At 10 pm. I wasn’t hungry earlier, so I decided to take out some lunch out of the freezer for tomorrow. My internet connection is spotty this evening; I tried to post this earlier without much luck.
I have my tickets to go home! I am getting excited. I haven’t been home since July. It’s going to be a great weekend! I can’t wait to see my family and DeeDee, and some other old friends from Japan. I wish Kat could be home, too… hopefully, sometime soon?
Skittle madness, part deux November 17, 2010
I brought in some Fizzy Skittles for my coworker, QA, today. She and DC devoured them in record time, then split the fizzy residue and did more Skittles shots. They were literally frothing at the mouth.
DC is off on a big adventure for work. To wish him luck, I gave him a fake moustache. I’m sure he’s going to do a super job! It’s all in the fake ‘stache.
And she was never heard from again… November 15, 2010
I foolishly signed up for Netflix. Of course, the first ten shows/movies/whatnottery I searched for were not there, but I am happily devouring Mad Men.
I also found Red Dwarf, which reminds me of living with B & K when I first moved to Kobe. I will work my way through that this weekend…
Is there anything you think I should watch nownownownownow? It doesn’t have to be a new release; remember, I lived overseas for eight years… I’ve missed out on a lot of shows and movies.
Off to drool over Jon Hamm!
My fake Irish uncle and his thoughts November 13, 2010
I know I’ve mentioned my fake Irish uncle before. He’s wonderful, and now he has a blog! Check it out! I’ve been shocking at keeping in touch with him; the messaging function at Facebook has been crapping out on me, but that is still no excuse.
I miss him, and I miss the pub. Of course, the nights when the dance floor was about to fall into the sixth floor, with Alan right in the middle of it all – dreadlocks flying – dancing to some Robbie Williams throwback, were always a blast. But what I really miss are the times when it would be just the regulars in the pub. Open Mike with Mike night. A five o’clock beer with Helen. Trivia nights. Ian and Brian and many, many others. And always, Alan.
I’m excited to see what he has to say!
