The hat I sent out almost two weeks ago still hasn’t reached its destination (the west coast of Canada). Or, it has, and the recipient hated it. If it’s not there by the end of this week, I’ll let the recipient know there is something out there for him/her.

I am nervous, however. What if it has been received and it was hated? What if it has been received, but not by its intended recipient? Yikes. I’m worried.

I hear from the recipient almost every day, and nothing has been said. Oh well… the mail in Canada can take forever. I guess I need to be patient.

Still on track…

So, I realized tonight that I’ve slightly miscalculated my running distances. I’ve remapped my route, and now I’m back on track. I ran about 7 km tonight. It took me 45 minutes, and I feel pretty good. Tired, but good.

I’m already figuring out where I’ll run when I’m for the holidays (which, for those of you keeping track at home, will be the evening of December 20th to the morning of December 27th). I have to work in the afternoon on December 27th. At least I’ll get to have some time at home with my family and friends. Especially DeeDee and Ms. TL! Tom’s on the 21st, I hope!

Dreaming of dim sum…

Saturday morning is my favourite time of the week. I get up, I go to the market, I pick up the Globe and Mail, some dim sum, and some quinoa salad for the week. Then, I head over to the coffee shop, eat my dim sum, and drink coffee while I do the crossword puzzle in the Globe.

I look forward to it all week. Do you have a weekly ritual you look forward to all week?

Thoughts of turkey and whatnottery

When I lived in Japan, I used to celebrate American Thanksgiving with my friends from around the world. The lovely Mr. SQ and I would have a party at his apartment. We usually would cook for normal parties, but for Thanksgiving, we would have a hotel cater the festivities. We would get a turkey and all the trimmings and dessert.

One year, we went to pick up the food, but it wasn’t ready yet. We had to wait in the wedding salon section for a few minutes. While we were sitting there, one of my students (I was working at an international elementary school at the time) walked by with his mother. When they saw SQ (coincidentally, the student had the same first name and last initial as my SQ) and I sitting there, their faces lit up.

SQ laughed out loud, and told me later that he should have laid one on me right there in the salon. I had some explaining to do when I got to school on Monday.

I miss my Japan loves.

Really, really here.

It started this morning and quickly turned into a greasy, slippery mess. I ws happy to get home and drink a bucketload of tea.

This time of year, I always ask myself the same question.

Why are Canadians always surprised when winter comes? It makes me giggle.

They’re finished! My lovely coworker was kind enough to model them for me. I think every woman in my workplace tried them on today. The colours are so much fun!

I have started my Christmas presents for DeeDee and Molly. I think they’ll be quick knits… and I can’t wait to see my girls wearing them. Hooray!

I’m in the process of knitting the second mitten. It is not going nearly as quickly as the first one. Not because it’s difficult, but because I just want it done now!

I’ll post pictures of the pair tomorrow night, because I will not rest until the pair is finished. I have a hat to start for DeeDee, and a scarf to finish for my mother.

I finished the mitten I started last night. I used Noro Taiyo and it knits up beautifully. The hand is a bit tight, but I think if I block the mittens when I’m done, they’ll fit like a glove, hahahaha. I was surprised how fast they knit up; I hope to be able to wear them by Tuesday (after blocking).

Oh, and do yourself a favour. Pick up some PC Red Velvet Cake Ice Cream. It’s delicious!

I’m knitting until my wrists give out

Usually, it’s my left wrist that gets blown out first. Until then, stuff is flying off the needles.

I’m working on a scarf for my mother. I’m also going to knit a hat for DeeDee (the same hat which is on its way to its recipient). I’m not sure if I’m going to do that in gunmetal grey, black, or ivory for her. I think the gunmetal grey would look great on her.

And, for the first time in years, I’m knitting a pair of mittens for me. I hope to have them finished this weekend. Once they fly off the needles, I’ll post a picture.

Today was a welcome end to the week that went onandonandonandon. Fortunately, I adore my coworkers and my work colleagues, so it makes things bearable. There is a knitter whose office is right next to mine, so I can talk about knitting whenever I want. My coworker is both a chef and a runner, so I can talk about food and running all day. I just need to find a coworker or colleague who loves swimming and travelling and suffers from a pop culture addiction.
